What Does The Qualification Cover?

This qualification provides the skills and experience to develop your career in child care in a wide range of settings. Areas covered include Understanding child and young person development, Context and principles for early years provision, Promoting the well being and resilience of children and young people and Supporting children and young people to achieve their education potential.

Qualification Gained: The Level 2 Certificate in Children & Young People’s Workforce comprises of the following components:

  • Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People‘s Workforce
  • Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in Application of Number, ICT and Communication
  • Paediatric First Aid

Who Is This Qualification Suited For?

The Level 2 will suit those who are working, or are about to work, as a nursery assistant, crèche worker or special educational needs assistant in a supporting role. You want to work with children, but you'll generally work under supervision.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements although candidates should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level of the qualification; candidates will be required to undertake the Initial Assessments before confirmation of place on course.

How Many Credits Are Required To Complete Them?

The course has Mandatory and optional units. The Level 2 comprises of 38 Credits. Units include: Introduction to Communication, Introduction to Personal Development; Introduction to Equality and Inclusion; Child and Young Person Development, Contribute to the Support of Child and Young Person Development; Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People; Contribute to Children and Young People’s Health and Safety; Support Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour; Contribute to the Support of Positive Environments for Children and Young People; Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children and Young People; Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young People; Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury.

How Is The Qualification Assessed?L2 CYPW

The assessor will come to the workplace and observe the candidate as well as assist in portfolio building and observations. All learners will attend a weekly class.

Do You Need To Be Working To Take The Qualifications?

Yes Candidates must be employed in a setting for at least 30 hours per week and should earn at least the minimum Apprenticeship salary of £3.30 p/hr and for those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship and applies to time working, plus time spent training that is part of the Apprenticeship.

How Long Will It Take To Complete?

The course will take approximately 12 to 14 months to complete.

What Qualifications Can You Progress To?

Candidates can progress on to the Diploma for Children & Young People’s Workforce.

What Type Of Job Roles Can You Apply For On Completion?

Candidates can work as a nursery assistant, crèche worker or special educational needs assistant in a supporting role. You want to work with children, but you'll generally work under supervision.

What Is The Course Cost?

The full cost of the course is £1,500. Candidates aged 16-18 will be eligible for full funding for the cost of the course. Funding is available for those aged 19 and over, please contact us for more information.
