Use of mobiles at your workplace

As a professional working, especially if you are in the childcare sector, it is vital that you are aware of the implications of using a mobile phone in the work place.

It is important to familiarise yourself with the mobile phone policy at your setting and ensure that you adhere to it at all times.

You must consider that you need to protect yourself from accusations as well as being aware of child protection issues and data protection within the childcare sector.

We would advise that you:

  • Do not have your mobile on your person when working with the children
  • Never take photographs or make videos of the children using your mobile phone.
  • Only use your mobile phone during break times in the staff room or off of the premises.
  • Some childcare settings will have cameras to record children’s learning journeys or for display boards. Parents permission must be given before photographs of their child are taken.
  • You must never take cameras containing photos from the nursery or videos of the children out of the setting.
