What Does The Qualification Cover?

Our Health and Social Care Apprenticeship has been designed for learners to demonstrate a broad based knowledge about different care settings and the needs of a range of service users. You will develop the knowledge, skills and qualities needed to work in the caring sector. Working in the caring sector provides many opportunities for you to make a difference to people's lives in a positive way.

Qualification Gained? The Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social care Apprenticeship comprises of the following components:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in Application of Number and Communication

Who Is This Qualification Suited For?

The Level 2 will suit you if are looking to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of and develop skills in the health and social care sector. This qualification gives learners opportunities to prepare for employment in the appropriate vocational sector.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements although candidates should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level of the qualification; candidates will be required to undertake the Initial Assessments before confirmation of place on course.

How Many Credits Are Required To Complete Them?

The course is made up of a number of Mandatory units supplemented by Optional units. Learners earn credits for each unit enabling them to meet the required number of credits to complete the course candidates have to complete a minimum of 79 credits. Units include: introL2 HSduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings, introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings, introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children and young people’s settings, introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings, principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care, the role of the health and social care worker, implement person centred approaches in health and social care, contribute to health and safety in health and social care and handle information in health and social care settings. 

How Is The Qualification Assessed?

The assessor will come to the workplace to observe and assess the learner and assist them in portfolio building and planning. Some teaching will take place in the workplace. All Learners will attend a monthly class.

Do You Need To Be Working To Take The Qualifications?

Yes Candidates must be employed in a setting for at least 30 hours per week andshould earn at least the minimum Apprenticeship salary of £3.30 p/hr and for those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship and applies to time working, plus time spent training that is part of the Apprenticeship.

How Long Will It Take To Complete?

The course will take approximately 12 to 14 months to complete

What Qualifications Can You Progress To?

Candidates can progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Access to Nursing and Social work courses and then onto university, or move into employment in fields related to the Health and Social care Industry.

What Type Of Job Roles Can You Apply For On Completion?

These qualifications can help you to gain employment within jobs such as care assistant, relief team worker, night care assistant, support worker, key worker in residential settings domiciliary services and day services, substance misuse worker, mental health support worker and re-enablement worker.

What Is The Course Cost?

Candidates aged 16-18 will be eligible for Full Funding for the cost of the course. Funding is available for those aged 19 and over please contact the admissions team for more information.
