What Does The Qualification Cover?

This qualification will provide an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. The qualification includes learning about children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare and communication. This qualification will provide you with everything you need to know to help out in a school or work as a teaching assistant.

Qualification Gained: Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. The award is comprised of mandatory units including;

  • Unit 301: Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Unit 302: Schools as Organisations
  • Unit 331: Understand Child and Young Person Development
  • Unit 333: Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people.

Who Is This Qualification Suitable For?

The Award is suitable for those not yet working in a Level 3 school role but could achieve at this Level. It is also suitable as initial training. The Level 3 is also ideal for those who have significant experience as a school support worker and wish to move in to a more specialised role – in administration, learning support and management.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements although candidates should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level of the qualification.

How Many Credits Are Required To Complete Them?

The Award requires 12 credits with 80 guided learning hours.

How Is The Qualification Assessed?

The course will be assessed by your tutor through written assignments and tasks set.

Do You Need To Be Working To Take The Qualifications?

No you do not need to be working or volunteering in a practical placement to undertake the course.

How Long Will It Take To Complete?

It will take approximately 6 months to complete this course.

What Qualifications Can You Progress To?

Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Level 3 Certificate in Cover Supervision or The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.

What Type Of Job Roles Can You Apply For On Completion?

On completion of these qualifications, you can gain a role supporting staff in schools, such as:

  • Senior teaching assistants
  • Senior learning support assistants
  • Senior special educational needs assistant
